Description
Johann Sebastian Bach
Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565
arranged for solo clarinet solo in Bb by Christoph Schneider
Undoubtedly, Johann Sebastian Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in d minor is one of the most important pieces of the organ literature. Because of its extraordinary level of fame this composition has led to a large variety of arrangements for most different instrumentations. It demonstrates the tremendous capacity for inspiration which is inherent in this piece for organ. So it was also a matter of concern to me as a clarinettist to approach Bach’s unique virtuoso harmonics as well as the singular polyphony and rhythmics. Furthermore, it was my aim to find an own and new tonal language while orienting as close as possible to the original (Christoph Schneider, editor).
