When composing his ‘Slavonic Dances’, Dvorák was inspired by the rhythm and gesture of individual Bohemian and Moravian dances as well as by Slavic melodies. In this arrangement for wind orchestra, which is based on Dvorák’s own orchestral version, the tonal possibilities of today’s symphonic wind orchestra have been fully exploited without distorting the original sound of the work.
