Description
Michael Aschauer (*1977)
Fantasy in d
for trombone and organ
The defining element of this atmospherically dense work is the opening motif, which runs through the entire composition. Varied, developed into different themes, sometimes surrounded by virtuoso counter-voices and embedded in a short fugato, it appears rhythmically incisive, elegiac, humorous, powerfully accentuated, mystically illuminated, gloomy-resignative and lyrically mild.
The fundamentally serious mood is thus slightly altered again and again until, after several attempts, the musical events come to a comforting conclusion in the D major chord.
The atmospherically dense chamber music work can be understood as an acoustic tracing of a life’s journey with its diverse, subtle nuances as well as a musical depiction of a search for the Redeemer that is ultimately crowned with success and can therefore be used not only in concert but also in the liturgy.
