For solo (instrumental/vocal) and wind orchestra. The famous “Largo” from the opera ‘Xerxes’ by George Frideric Handel was for a long time the only piece of music that remained from the score, which was lost until 1924. Handel wrote many beautiful, solemn melodies, but his “Largo” is still unequaled in dignity and poignant simplicity. The version for wind orchestra presented here is in the original key of G major. The solo part can be played by various instruments (C, Bb, E flat), but high vocal parts (soprano or tenor) can also take over the solo part and be accompanied by the wind orchestra.
