Three sketches for saxophone quartet
Unsuspecting sleep – burst water pipe – dehydration
Ssx, Asx, Tsx, Bsx
The composer Bernhard Ullrich was inspired to write these three short movements by his own experience of a burst water pipe at night. The all too unpleasant course of such an incident is depicted: Unsuspecting sleep, lyrical, dreamy, with impressionistic features, the unexpected bursting of the water pipe, which describes the sudden onslaught of water masses with rapid quaver and semiquaver figures, as well as the subsequent drying out, in which the last section of the mishap is characterized in sustained and deliberate tones. The entire process has been set to music with a humorous wink and offers the performers more than just a few drops of water, both musically and technically. In 1996, Bernhard Ullrich was awarded 3rd prize in the composition competition of the Verband Münchner Tonkünstler e.V. for this work.
