Description
Markus Götz (*1973)
Sinfonietta for wind orchestra
I. Allegro festivo – II. Adagio – III. finale
This three-movement work was commissioned on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Musikverein Karsau. Götz impressively succeeds in synthesizing catchy melodies, sometimes jazzy harmonies and witty rhythms, but none of these elements become an end in themselves. The composer writes: “… It is a work that refers to history by virtue of its symphonic form and deliberately combines elements from different periods of music history. Nevertheless, I don’t see my work as a retrospective. By placing historical forms […] in a harmonically and rhythmically new context, something new and unique is created.”
