Description
Gioachino Rossini / Iwan Müller
Duo de l’opéra d’Armide
for clarinet, bassoon (or violoncello), and piano (or harp) edited by Hanno Friedrich Fendt and Michael Nowotny
The clarinet virtuoso and instrument maker Ivan Müller (1786–1854), a co-founder of the German clarinet system and composer of numerous works for his instrument, based this chamber work using melodies from Gioachino Rossini’s opera Armida (premiered in Naples in 1817). The bassoon solo part may alternatively be performed on the violoncello, and the piano accompaniment may also be played on the harp. This source-critical edition is based on the first print issued by the Parisian music publisher Dufaut et Dubois.
