Description

Joseph Weigl (1766-1846)

Partita on themes from the ballet “I spagnoli nell’isola Cristina”

for 3 basset horns (3 clarinets, 2 clarinets + basset horn, 2 clarinets + bassoon)

Edited by Luigi Magistrelli and Michael Nowotny

Anonymous historical adaptation from Prague. Joseph Weigl was one of the most renowned Viennese composers around 1800. He wrote a large number of operas, musical comedies and ballet music for the Viennese court theaters and became known far beyond Austria’s borders. The six-movement partita provides a brief insight into the almost forgotten genre of ballet music from the early 19th century. The equally graceful and humorous melodies make playing as a trio an exceptionally entertaining experience.
