Description
Rolf Wilhelm (*1927)
The Nibelungen Saga
Arr.: Joseph Kanz
This arrangement is based on Rolf Wilhelm’s film music for the two-part German film epic Die Nibelungen from 1966 (director: Harald Reinl, producer: Atze Brauner). Wilhelm manages to accompany this film opulently with music, yet successfully resists the temptation to invoke Wagner’s legacy. This new arrangement for symphonic wind orchestra by Joseph Kanz – a master of his trade – which was created in close collaboration with the composer, revives this great German cinema success in a prominent version. It contains the most important themes and leitmotifs of the film music; only the Ride of the Valkyries was added later by the composer.
The legend – The saga begins (volcanoes on Iceland) – Siegfried’s entry – Siegfried’s ride – Fanfares – Dance at the court of Worms – Ride of the Valkyries – Ride on the Rhine – Siegfried’s return home
