Rudi Spring (*1962)
Intermezzo
Music for wind orchestra
This work was created in 1987 and was revised in 1992 and 1997. The perhaps unfamiliar handling of the familiar instrumentation arose from the need to move away from the tiring continuous tutti sound towards greater audibility of the individual registers. It is a short fantasy form: in the first third, an Irish folk tune with a strong Alpine flavor appears in the solo clarinet; the charm of a combination of the seemingly incompatible, brought to the point by the original quotation, continues to have an effect in several layers of the composition.
