Description

Frantisek X. Pokorný

Concertante for 2 Clarinets in A, Violoncello und Piano

edited by Luigi Magistrelli and Stefano Furini

František Xaver Pokorný (1729–1794) was a distinguished composer of the Bohemian-German Classical era whose music is only gradually being rediscovered today. His Concertante for two A clarinets and orchestra, composed around 1760, is among the earliest known works for this combination and documents the early history of the clarinet as a solo instrument.

The present edition is based on a reconstruction of the first two movements from the surviving solo parts. The work was first recorded by the editors, Luigi Magistrelli and Stefano Furini, for DA VINCI Classics, together with other clarinet works by Pokorný.
