Description
Giuseppe Gherardeschi (1759-1815)
6 sonatas for 3 clarinets
Ed.: Luigi Magistrelli
These pieces are taken from a collection of originally ten sonatas (Dieci Sonate per tre Clarinetti, 1792). The manuscript is in the Archivio Capitolare of Pistoia Cathedral. The sonata collection can be regarded as one of the earliest examples of scoring with three clarinets. The short, single-movement works in the classical style are based on a simple harmonic framework and usually have a virtuoso, sometimes spiritual character, reflecting the unique nature of the church composer.
