Like many virtuosos of his time, J. Reinagle was also active as a teacher. In addition to these sonatinas (originally duets for two violoncellos), he wrote other works for instrumental lessons with string instruments. Emmerich Bünemann’s edition is a reworking of these duets for violoncello and piano. For the editor, the focus was on a genuine concert performance of the two instruments in the style of the period in which they were written. The piano acts as an equal partner to the violoncello. An enclosed 2nd violoncello part also makes it possible to play the original version.
