Richard Strauss

Königsmarsch (King’s March)Royal March

Militärischer Festmarsch in Es-dur AV 100
für Sinfonisches Blasorchester bearbeitet von Stephan Ametsbichler

Strauss himself orchestrated the King’s March, completed as a piano particell on December 30, 1905, for symphony orchestra and conducted it in this version on January 27, 1906 at the Berlin Court Opera as the “Festmarsch zu Kaisers Geburtstag”. This Military Festival March in E flat major was, like most of the military marches composed by Strauss himself, “dedicated in deepest reverence to His Majesty the Emperor and King Wilhelm II”. Strauss used it once again in 1925 as incidental music for his Rosenkavalier film. . .

The present arrangement is based on the piano particell published by Adolph Fürstner in 1906 and individual, deviating additions from the version for symphony orchestra made by Strauss himself and also edited by Fürstner. This “original version” essentially corresponds to the symphony orchestra version in its musical structure.
