Trio in A

for flute, oboe and piano

This four-movement trio in A for flute, oboe and piano is lyrical and melodious for long stretches. By limiting itself to a few central basic motifs used across the movement boundaries, it unites different moods into a coherent whole. A cantabile first movement in sonata form, which also contains energetic climaxes in the transitions, is followed by an elegiac, lamenting slow movement in F sharp minor, before a short, dance-like scherzo lightens the mood again. A lively rondo, in which themes from the previous movements are developed and brought together, concludes the trio. Based on the classical-romantic style, this work is a real enrichment of the music literature for this instrumentation in its grace, sensitivity and immediate catchiness and can also have a spontaneous effect in concert.
