Description
Leopold Mozart (1719-1787)
Sinfonia Burlesca
for 5 violoncellos
Arr.: Emmerich Bünemann
In addition to the “Musical Sleigh Ride” and the “Peasant Wedding”, this is another ‘musical amusement’ by Leopold Mozart. After the opening “Sinfonia”, three figures from the Italian Commedia dell’Arte are characterized musically: Harlequino and Hanswurst (silly and high-spirited) and “Il Signor Pantalone” (old and dignified, yet suspicious). The Sinfonia Burlesca, originally composed for 2 violas, 2 violoncellos and bass, has been transcribed here – in accordance with the aims of the MUSICA ALLEGRA series – especially for performers with less sound knowledge of older performance practice in today’s notation and provided with a few technical simplifications such as slurs, forbear notation and bow positions.
