Description

Josef Maier (1931-2020)

Batho-Messe

for soli (SATB), choir (SATB), flute, violin, 2 trumpets, tenorhorn, and organ

edited by Martin Lamprecht

Blessed Batho served as a priest in Freising in the 11th century and worked as a missionary primarily in Carinthia, which is why he is venerated as the “Apostle of Carinthia.” His relics have been kept in Nandlstadt since 1803, where he is honored each year with a feast day on July 30.
On this occasion, the long-time parish priest of Nandlstadt, Josef Maier (1931–2020), composed a Mass setting that is still performed there regularly today. The present edition includes the full score as well as choral and instrumental parts in the composer’s original version and offers flexible performance options for choir and instruments. It is intended both as a musical tribute to Blessed Batho and as a valuable addition to the repertoire of sacred music.

Supplementary parts (strings / winds) for the four-part instrumental setting are available on request
