Georg Philipp Telemann’s 12 Fantasias for Solo Flute (TWV 40:1–12) have long held an established place in the oboe repertoire. The present edition of twelve additional fantasias is intended as a valuable expansion of that repertoire and is based on the Fantasias for Solo Violin, TWV 40:14–25, published in 1735.

While the flute fantasias can be performed on the oboe with little or no modification, the adaptation of the violin fantasias required careful adjustments in some passages due to the differing technical possibilities of the two instruments. Nevertheless, Telemann’s original musical substance has been preserved almost in its entirety.
