Stephan Ametsbichler

Stephan Ametsbichler, born in Glonn (Upper Bavaria) in 1961, studied musicology at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and clarinet privately with Horst Schwantner (Bavarian State Orchestra Munich). The state-approved conductor of amateur wind orchestras led the Glonn band from 1985-1996 and was conductor of the Rosenheim town band from 1993 to 2010.

From 1989-1996 he was initially deputy federal conductor in the Music Association of Upper and Lower Bavaria, and from 1996 to 2000 he held the office of federal conductor and was also state conductor of the Bavarian Wind Music Association from 1997 to 2001.

Initially hired by Bayerischer Rundfunk in 1996 as a presenter for “Bayern 1 Blasmusik”, Stephan Ametsbichler also worked as a program designer and editorial assistant for the station between 2002 and 2012, before being appointed music editor for Bavaria’s amateur music scene in January 2013.

The widely respected arranger for symphonic wind music is a member of the literature commission of the “Bundesvereinigung deutscher Musikverbände” (BDMV) and also works as a juror at international competitions and competitions for wind music. He has also made a name for himself as a guest conductor of various chamber music ensembles, at international courses for symphonic wind music, as a conductor of musical productions for the “Theater Rosenheim” and as a concert presenter.

The state-approved conductor of wind orchestras in amateur music-making led the Glonn music band from 1985-1996 and was the conductor of the Rosenheim town band from 1993 to 2010.

From 1989 to 1996 he was Deputy Federal Conductor in the Music Association of Upper and Lower Bavaria, from 1996 to 2000 he held the office of Federal Conductor and from 1997 to 2001 he was also State Conductor of the Bavarian Brass Band Association.

In 1996, Stephan Ametsbichler was initially hired as a presenter for Bavarian Radio’s “Bayern 1 Blasmusik”. Between 2002 and 2012, Stephan Ametsbichler also worked as a program designer and editorial staff for this house before he was appointed music editor in January 2013 to look after the amateur music scene in Bavaria.
